3.The export potential of Vietnam vegetables and fruits to the markets of the GCC countries

Overall, though exports vegetables to the markets of the GCC countries have positive developments, but the proportion of fruit and vegetable exports to this region remains very modest in terms of all export capacity perspective of Vietnam and the demand for imports of vegetables, flowers and fruit of the GCC countries. Specifically, in 2014, exports to the GCC vegetables accounted for only 2.67% of the total export turnover of Vietnam vegetables. If compared with the import demand of the GCC countries, the ratio is even smaller. For the whole region, the GCC countries imported 0.59% vegetables of all kinds from Vietnam. For each country, this ratio are: Saudi Arabia (0.74%), UAE (0.57%), Kuwait (0.64%), Qatar (0.24%) , Bahrain (0.58%), Oman.

Cause for vegetable exports to markets in the GCC countries has not really taken off is because:

First, the subjective, businesses and farmers in Vietnam have not built up the manufacturing process to meet the export standards especially criteria relating to religion; by the habit of cultivating the fruit and vegetable products, in trade transactions and especially the harvesting capacity and weak while preserving fruits and vegetables are perishable items.

Second, objective reasons is horticulture Vietnam has to compete with many countries with developed agriculture or have a favorable geographical distance such as Turkey, Egypt, Thailand, etc .

4.Solutions

It was from the reasons mentioned above, if Vietnam now known change in the right direction in meeting export standards and take advantage of available (specialty fruits), the potential to boost exports vegetables to the GCC market is not small. The presence of 03 agencies deal of 6 GCC countries would also be an effective means to provide market information, quality standards and local importers to exporters Vietnam . Besides, the major airlines like Emirates, Etihad, Emirates, Qatar have opened a direct route linking Vietnam with Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar. This is a favorable condition for the promotion of exports of horticulture, especially some special fruit of Vietnam as lychee, longan, dragon fruit to the aforementioned market and neighboring countries.
